Elevating the Voice of Survivors
Sandal Blue Foundation’s patient advocacy is personal. After surviving a catastrophic car accident, we experienced firsthand how hard it can be to navigate recovery and care—and we now use that lived experience to elevate the voices of patients and families who often go unheard. Our founders serve on and lead advocacy panels and partner with national organizations like The PATIENTS Program to help researchers, hospitals, and policymakers create more responsive, empathetic, and effective healthcare, so survivors never feel alone or invisible.

Educating Healthcare Providers
We believe the most powerful way to improve patient care is by listening to patients themselves. That’s why we partner with healthcare and academic institutions to bring survivor perspectives into education and training. Our team has presented in trauma-focused nursing courses at Weber State University and lectured undergraduate recreation therapy students at the University of Utah, sharing what recovery looks like from the patient and caregiver point of view. These sessions help future providers move beyond textbooks—connecting with the emotional, logistical, and human realities of healing—so they learn to see the whole person, not just the chart.
