Our Story

Sandal Blue Foundation's Beginning

Born from our own journey of survival and recovery.

Trevor and Seantae were celebrating their 14-year-old twins, Cameron and Owen, with a backpacking trip after a strong school year. Their friend Mel joined them for the adventure.

While traveling there on a two-lane highway, another vehicle attempted to pass a semi-truck and did not see their car. The collision was severe. All five were seriously injured, and three were in critical condition. What followed was a long and complex journey of surgeries, hospital stays, rehabilitation, and recovery.

Throughout their long recoveries, they were deeply grateful for the medical teams, family, friends, and community who surrounded them. At the same time, they recognized how difficult it was to navigate life after discharge – the emotional toll, the practical barriers, and the feeling of walking a road few truly understand.

Just one year later, Sandal Blue Foundation was created to be the kind of support they wished had existed. Ensuring survivors and families never have to navigate recovery alone.

Our Mission

Our Mission

Today, Sandal Blue Foundation offers hospital visits, care baskets, a growing resource hub, and educational outreach programs—all built on lived experience and compassion. Whether you're a survivor, caregiver, or supporter, we’re here to walk beside you, every step of the way.
Our Name

Our Name

It may initially seem like an odd title for a non-profit. But when we were in a catastrophic crash, first responders quickly entered a ‘John Doe’ name into the system for Trevor, so they could begin his chart. ‘Sandal Blue’ was Trevor’s trauma name. It remained that way for many days and was the beginning inspiration for the foundation!

After a motor vehicle accident, everyone has their own peaks and valleys to deal with. We were involved in our accident on the way to go backpacking - and have noticed so many similarities between recovery and backpacking in the mountains. Each individual has their own unique set of challenges as they climb their peaks, taking it all one step at a time.

We Need You!

We Love Building Relationships With:

Volunteers & Survivor Families

If you’re a survivor, caregiver, or someone who wants to serve - we’d love to connect. Survivor families help shape our programs with real-life insight, and volunteers help us deliver support—like assembling care baskets, sharing resources, and building a community where no one heals alone.

Hospitals & Healthcare Systems

If you’re part of a hospital or healthcare system, we would be honored to partner with you. We bring survivor-led support into the recovery process through patient advocacy, bedside (or virtual) visits, and trauma-informed education for staff and students. Our goal is to complement your care by extending connection, lived-experience insight, and practical resources beyond discharge.

Nonprofits & Community Organizations

We collaborate with nonprofits and community partners to expand the safety net for survivors and families. Whether it’s referrals, co-hosted events, education workshops, or shared resources, we’re here to strengthen what already exists and make sure survivors can find help faster.

Business & Corporate Sponsors

Businesses can power tangible hope through sponsorships and giving—funding care baskets, building our resource hub, or supporting survivor visits and outreach. Corporate partners can also help through matching gifts, employee volunteer days, and in-kind donations that directly impact families rebuilding after trauma.

Journalists & Media Platforms

Media partners help amplify survivor voices with dignity and purpose - shining a light on recovery, safety, and the realities families face after serious crashes. If you’re a journalist, podcaster, or creator - we’re available for interviews and stories that educate, protect, and share hope without sensationalizing trauma.
